Office of Institutional
Research
Over the course of the past ten
years, in response to internal assessment of institutional needs, a number
of structural changes occurred in the staffing and functioning of the Office
of Institutional Research (IR).
The chronology and recent developments are detailed below.
Staffing and responsibility chronology
- From 1989 to early 1991 a full-time
person managed the office.
- In 1991 the position was split
between Director of IR and Acting Registrar.
- In 1994 the IR position was converted
to full-time status.
- In 1996, it was divided between
IR and Registrar functions.
- In 1997, it was split among IR,
Registrar, and Administrative Services.
- In February of 2000 the position
moved to full time Associate for IR.
Recent developments in the IR Office
With more intensive planning and
assessment efforts taking place within the institution, the College recognized
that a full-time IR person with a centralized office was essential. Although
this area is still in the development
stage, it has been instrumental in initiating many positive changes in a short
period of time.
For example:
- A review cycle for administrative
areas has been put in place and each
area will be evaluated
and provided with feedback, which is supported by data
( See IR Calendar of Review,
IR Office).
- The office coordinated the assessment/evaluation
efforts of each administrative
area (See 5-col forms for each
administrative area plus IR Office files).
- A rotation schedule for submitting
5-column assessment forms for each
administrative area has
been set up (See schedule in IR Office).
- The Common Data set as well as
other useful data has been made available on the
newly created IR web site at www.ir.sbc.edu.
